Are you stuck in negative patterns that keep you in survival mode?
Self-sabotaging behaviors can make it hard to feel good about yourself. But you can change this. You were meant to thrive, not just survive!
You can leave behind old hurts, fears, and negative beliefs that keep you from flourishing. You can gain a sense of self-worth that will transform your relationships and life decisions, allowing you to feel more content and optimistic.
Therapy can offer you powerful support as you make these important changes in your life. I am here to encourage you and give you hope as you do the work needed to reach your goals.
Couples and Marriage Therapy
My focus in couples therapy is to explore the emotions and behaviors that get in the way of your relationship.
My aim is to give both of you an opportunity to explore difficulties in your relationship without the fear of being judged or ridiculed.
Some of the problems you can work through in couples counseling are:
- Emotional intimacy
- Trust and infidelity
- Life transitions and stressors
- Communication patterns
- Conflict resolutions
- Grief and loss
- Family of origin or extended family issues (boundaries)
- Financial issues
I want to help you get to the root of your relationship problems.
We will look at both your strengths as a couple as well as your struggles. Sometimes we might look at how your past difficult life situations have led to certain patterns of behavior that cause stress in your current relationship.
I will ask you to do homework outside of our couples sessions to create more positive change in your marriage.
Sometimes I will meet with you individually to help you brush up on certain skills or address trust issues stemming from your past.
I will create a safe environment for change where you will be able to experiment with new ways of relating to each other while decreasing the blame and defensiveness.
It’s an honor to see restored affection, trust rebuilt, and intimacy increase as part of couples counseling!
Individual Counseling for Women and Men
I work with individuals who want to heal from past painful experiences in order to live a fulfilling life, and who need to find effective ways to manage life stressors.
Some common issues I help people with include:
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety
- Trauma
- Grief
- Stress
- Boundaries
What qualifies me to help you
I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from the Franciscan University of Steubenville and have worked continuously in the field of mental healing counseling for 21 years. I have worked with men, women, and teens to help them find healing and resolution for experiences in their lives that have held them back from flourishing.
I have specialized training in EMDR, a research-based therapy to help process trauma. I have been doing EMDR for over eighteen years and have found it invaluable in helping people experience freedom from intrusive memories and emotions they have struggled with for years.
What to expect in counseling with me?
I use a relational approach that invites clients to develop a sense of safety and honesty with themselves. I listen deeply and provide empathetic support as I help clients become more aware of why they do what they do. Together we examine belief systems and notice emotions that need attention.
I am skilled in helping people who have experienced complex trauma in their lives. When appropriate, I use EMDR to help clients process past memories that continue to plague them.
I also use an Internal Family Systems approach to help clients understand and respond more effectively to themselves when they feel overwhelmed. Through this approach, clients gradually learn to quiet their internal battles and find greater self-acceptance.
Why choose me as your therapist?
It is my privilege to be invited into the sacred places of a person’s heart to accompany them as they heal. If you are looking for someone whom you can trust and feel safe with in opening up tender places within yourself, I am here to support you.
I am passionate about helping people develop a sense of safety and security, and to deeply feel their own worth, not just to resolve symptoms.
A bit about me outside my work as a therapist
I love the outdoors and living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I grew up in the Northwest and always consider it home, even when I have lived in other areas. My own personal “therapy” is being outside in my yard and doing almost any task, or going for a walk.
I am an avid reader and enjoy fiction as well as books that make me think deeply and learn. On rainy days I enjoy curling up with a blanket and my cat on my lap and getting immersed in a good read!
My family and my faith are central to my life and provide me with emotional and spiritual nourishment.
