Tuesday and Thursday
Do you find that life has gotten overwhelming, and it’s hard to find joy in things you used to love?
Are world events and changes causing you to fear and be anxious about what will come next and how you will handle them?
There is hope!
There are so many reasons a person can feel discouraged, depressed, and anxious, and there are many solutions to help you feel better and experience joy and contentment again!
Life is a journey with many challenges.
I would love to join you on your journey and help to make it an adventure rather than a chore.
Who I work with?
Marriage Counseling and Couples Therapy
You notice that you and your partner have grown apart over the years. You feel misunderstood and unheard. It doesn’t feel good to be there.
You want to reconnect and find closeness that seems to have vanished. You want to have peace in your relationship again.
As a marriage counselor, I would like to support you in making sense of where you and your significant other get stuck in your relationship. I want to help you channel your passion away from arguments and into rediscovering feelings of love, commitment, and partnership.
If you are engaged or a newlywed couple, who want to start their marriage off strong, I want to offer you a roadmap for lasting and fulfilling friendship and intimacy.
My couples therapy work is based on research by many relationship experts including John and Julie Gottman (Gottman Couples Therapy), Dr. John Gray and other relationship professionals.
I look forward to helping you move from disconnect, yelling, and icy silence to a more loving and supportive relationship.
Couple’s Therapy for One?
You can make positive changes in your marriage even if you seek relationship therapy by yourself.
There might be many reasons why your spouse isn’t able to or doesn’t have a desire to join you for couples counseling. It doesn’t mean you should resign to arguments, hurt feelings and loneliness.
In our couples therapy for one, I will actively coach you to be a better spouse.
We will focus on what you say and do that matters in your marriage. We will explore your individual part in reinforcing negative patterns in your relationship and how to change that.
We will take a look at what approaches work and what stands in the way of communicating with your particular partner. At the end, you will know how to talk effectively in an honest but nor hurtful way, so your partner will listen.
You don’t need to keep convincing your spouse to read a book or go to marriage counseling! We will turn your relationship around and help you find the joy and intimacy you’ve always wanted.
Counseling for Women and Men Individually
I enjoy working with people who feel stuck and want to make changes in their lives and with individuals who are feeling depressed, anxious, and run down.
In our therapy sessions, we will look at your old patterns, habits, or ways of thinking that might not serve you well anymore. I will meet you where you are, and with my knowledge and skills guide toward a healthier, more balanced, and fulfilling future.
To help you understand and manage your emotions and behaviors and move you toward positive change, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is one of the leading therapy methods to assist people in recovering from depression and anxiety.
My advanced training in nutrition and integrative medicine for mental health will be good resource as I help you with improving your mental clarity, energy, confidence, and mood.
Functional Mental Health
Functional Mental Health helps you find the root causes of your mental distress and correcting those causes with nutrition, lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals, and other helpful therapies. I will work as a team with you, your physician, and other health professionals to help you get to a better place in life.
The current research in mental health is finding that there is a direct connection between our physical health and our mental health. You may have heard of the “gut/brain connection”.
When our gut or metabolic system is out of balance or unhealthy, we begin to experience symptoms of an unhealthy brain such as depression, fatigue, anxiety or panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, insomnia, ruminating thoughts, and many other mental health problems.
Using current research, I will educate you on how to use nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve your brain health and in turn improve your emotional wellbeing and your relationships.
I will help you to advocate for your needs with your physicians and maybe suggest other helpful therapies that will improve your brain health.
Counseling for Families and Teens
As parents, we want our kids to grow into well-adjusted, pleasant, and functional adults, but parenting can be overwhelming and all-consuming.
Kids don’t come with a manual, and so many things seem to go wrong.
I’m passionate about working with exhausted and overwhelmed parents who need a new perspective. I enjoy helping families who want to improve communication, respect, and peace in their home.
In our family and parenting sessions together, I will teach you new skills. Together, we will discern what is age-appropriate child behavior and what might need specific intervention based on your child’s needs.
In families with teens, I enjoy working with teens individually and with their families. If you are concerned that your teenager shows signs of worry, irritability, depression, or self-harm, I would like to help.
I know how hard it is to watch your child struggle. Working with your teen in counseling will be a collaborative experience between your family and me.
In my counseling with teens, I draw from the work of Dr. Dan Seigel and attachment theory. My training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and nutrition and integrative medicine for mental health will also be important in getting your teen to a more emotionally healthy and peaceful place in life.
Why chose me as your therapist?
Beyond my professional education, a few things have shaped me to be the therapist that I am today.
I have over 20 years of experience working with families of children with challenging behaviors, including autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, and medical problems.
Growth through pain in my personal life has helped me to see hope in difficult seasons and build on my compassion for people. I have personal and professional experience in the areas of infertility, losing a child, and raising a neuro-atypical child.
My continued professional learning and training in research-based therapies is of much value to help me help you meet your goals.
I have the heart to help you heal!
I have the courage to challenge you in becoming who you were made to be!
I have the training and experience to help you transform yourself and your relationships!
I would love to help you move forward in your life!
How I work?
I consider each individual, couple, or family’s unique personality, situation, and style when I work. I want you to feel accepted, supported, and encouraged.
I want you to feel hope and see real change in your life.
In our therapy work together, you can count on me being real, and that I’ll help you feel safe to do the same.
I will encourage you to work on some assignments and practice certain skills in between our counseling sessions.
It is never my intent to make therapy drawn out. We will take the time you need, not more and not less. Together, we will determine the frequency and duration of therapy that will be right for you.
A bit about me outside of my work as a therapist…
I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. My husband and I met in high school and dated for seven years before we got married. We’ve been married for 24 years and have two children. We enjoy camping, hiking, mountain biking, and tennis.
I am passionate about music, and my husband and I are worship leaders at our church. I lead a weekly women’s bible study. In addition, I homeschool my 14yr old daughter.
I love reading and learning new things. I enjoy finding new healthy and tasty recipes and feeding my friends and family.
